Questions hospital directors ask before they choose.

Straight answers on what CareLink is, what it does today, and how a hospital starts with it. If your question is not here, write to hello@carelink.et.

The product

Is CareLink a hospital management system or an EMR?

Both. CareLink is a hospital operating system: the electronic medical record and the operational modules — outpatient, lab, imaging, pharmacy, inpatient, nursing, billing, inventory and reporting — share one database and one patient record.

Who is CareLink for?

Hospitals, health centers, clinics and specialty centers in Ethiopia, public or private. We sell to and support institutions; patients reach CareLink only through their own hospital's website.

Which languages does CareLink support?

Amharic, Afaan Oromo and English, on every screen staff use, with proper Ge'ez typography. Prescriptions, discharge summaries and lab reports print in all three.

What does CareLink not do yet?

Analyser integration, PACS image storage, barcode scanning at the bedside, SMS immunization reminders and direct DHIS2 submission are on the roadmap. Each module page marks roadmap items clearly.

Can we see it working before we commit?

Yes. We will walk your team through a fully configured demo hospital, from registration to discharge, on a call or at your premises. Ask for it on the Work with us page.

Ethiopian workflows

Does CareLink handle CBHI claims?

Yes. Register a patient's CBHI membership or insurer policy with member ID, validity and co-pay, raise a claim from the visit's charges, submit it, record approval or rejection and post the reimbursement against the bill. Claims print on A4 for the woreda or insurer.

Can CareLink produce Ministry of Health reports?

CareLink exports an HMIS-style monthly facility summary — OPD attendances, admissions, discharges, deliveries, ANC first visits, immunizations, lab tests and malaria RDT results — as CSV. Your HMIS officer maps it to your DHIS2 data elements; direct DHIS2 submission is not built in yet.

Which payment methods are supported?

Cash at the cashier, and mobile money and cards — telebirr, CBE Birr and others — through Chapa, reconciled to the visit.

Does it follow the Ethiopian EPI schedule and WHO ANC model?

Yes. Each child's immunization schedule is generated from the national EPI schedule with due and overdue doses, and antenatal contacts are tracked against the WHO eight-contact model.

Infrastructure and data

What happens when the internet is slow or goes down?

CareLink is server-rendered with very little JavaScript, so it stays usable on 3G and older laptops. Full offline operation during an outage is on the roadmap; during the discovery visit we agree a downtime procedure with paper fallback for your connection and power situation.

Where is our data hosted?

In a dedicated, isolated tenant per hospital with daily backups and a rehearsed restore procedure. Hosting location, and whether an on-premise component makes sense for you, is agreed during the discovery visit.

Who owns the patient data?

Your hospital does. Each hospital's data is isolated at the database level, every access is logged in a tamper-evident audit trail, and you can take a full export at any time. We never sell or share patient data.

What hardware do we need?

Any reasonably recent laptop or desktop with a modern browser, a printer for A4 documents, and an internet connection. No server room is required for the hosted model.

Buying and starting

What does CareLink cost?

Pricing is quoted per facility after a discovery visit, based on size, departments, modules, users and hosting. There is no public price list. The pricing page explains what drives the price and what is always included.

How long does it take to go live?

It depends on size and how many departments start together. A clinic can be live within weeks of the discovery visit; a hospital usually goes live department by department. The go-live plan comes with the quotation.

Do you train our staff?

Yes, on your premises and in their language. Front desk, nurses, clinicians, lab, pharmacy and cashiers are trained on their own screens, and we are on site at go-live.

Can we move our existing records into CareLink?

Patient demographics from an existing system or spreadsheet can usually be imported; we assess what you have during the discovery visit. Paper histories are typically not back-entered — the record builds from each patient's next visit.
